Myofascial Acoustic Compression Therapy
In staying on the cutting edge of pain relief, Advantage Chiropractic Clinic is proud to now be able to help manage acute and chronic pain using the PiezoWave.
The PiezoWave uses acoustic compression therapy to target areas where your body is experiencing pain. The non-invasive treatment, called Myofascial Acoustic Compression Therapy, or MyACT, sends acoustic waves generated by the PiezoWave through the body to pinpoint an area within the soft tissue. The waves produce a short but intense compression event, effectively providing a deep-tissue massage to the targeted area.
The treatment can also help detect the origin of pain-triggering points to determine which areas require treatment in the event that the source is unknown. The mechanical stimulus the process delivers breaks up areas of muscular spasm and forces lactic acid out of damaged tissues to promote circulation and pain relief.
During the treatment, a clinician will apply a thin coat of coupling gel to the treatment site to serve as a conductor. The clinician will then begin the treatment at a low output setting and increase it based on the location and depth of tissue being treated.
A typical MyACT treatment only takes between 10 and 20 minutes, and side effects are limited to reddened skin and/or minor soreness at the treatment site in some isolated cases.Four to seven treatments may be required to realize lasting improvement, but with acute pain a single session can sometimes be successful.
